As the cornerstone of our business, the sustainability, growth and education of intermediaries is vital to Santam. We are therefore committed to the transformation of the industry to ensure its sustainability and to enhance client experiences. Santam’s development programme aims to fast-track transformation by providing emerging intermediaries with vital skills and access. It promotes skills transfer, enterprise development and job creation, and recognises an under-serviced emerging market for insurance.
We are very proud of our Santam Intermediary Growth and Development Programme (SIGDP) which stands to benefit over 1000 intermediaries in support of our mission to speed up industry-wide reforms. Our aim is to accelerate the growth of black owned enterprises, with go-to-market strategies and appropriate products, including support to ensure excellent client service. Through this programme Santam hopes to enable emerging intermediaries to build profitable and sustainable businesses. Upon completion of the programme, ongoing development and support will help to ensure continued business success.
The SIGDP enjoys the support of a number of leading industry role players who are actively involved in the various initiatives included in the programme. In 2021 alone, we have invested over R50-million and partnered with the Financial Intermediaries Association of South Africa (FIA), the South African Insurance Association (SAIA) and the Insurance Institute of South Africa (IISA). By investing in this relationship as well as sharing our vision and ideals on doing business better, we ensure our industry remains vibrant and sustainable.
Initiated and launched by Santam in 2021 with 20 pilot intermediaries, this programme focuses on personal mastery, technical and business development skills, behavioural competencies and entrepreneurial skills.
In a further bid to accelerate transformation in the industry, this initiative provides intermediaries access to specialised training, mentorship, coaching and professionalisation opportunities. Santam subsidises the one-year membership fees for nominated black and female-owned participants.
Santam works alongside the Association for Savings and Investment South Africa (ASISA) on this initiative that drives the upskilling of intermediaries in the fields of business and operational management as well as client management.
Santam supports intermediary participation in this initiative, which funds strategic investment opportunities to transform intermediaries by enabling black brokers to acquire equity. It also helps established intermediaries to grow new business volumes and build sustainable businesses with strong succession plans.
