Watercraft insurance

Make the most of your water experiences knowing that your watercraft is sufficiently insured for any eventuality.

We offer comprehensive insurance for most types of watercraft, including onboard motors, machinery, equipment and standard fittings, such as the hull and accessories which are normally included when purchasing a watercraft.

Our watercraft insurance covers the following, at no additional cost:

  • Reasonable costs incurred towards stowage, safekeeping, moving or transporting of the watercraft after loss or damage
  • Salvaging costs incurred for recovery of the watercraft, with written consent from Santam
  • Reasonable cost incurred towards returning watercraft to normal stowage after repairs, following due authorization
  • Emergency accommodation for maximum two nights for you and one passenger in the event that a journey cannot be completed
  • Trauma treatment by a registered professional counselor following the hijacking of the watercraft
  • Emergency payments which you are liable for to any public authority due to loss or damage to the watercraft
  • Emergency repairs following loss – up to R5 000

Counting the real costs of hail: denting not just your car but the economy too

A big hail storm has wreaked havoc in parts of Bloemfontein recently with claims for damage to homes and vehicles streaming in at South Africa’s largest general insurer, Santam today. In a short period of time a hailstorm on the M1 North of the William Nicol highway in Johannesburg can cause extensive damage to a vehicle. For the insurance industry, a hailstorm lasting 20 minutes in two to three Pretoria suburbs could cost up to R100 million in claims for damage to vehicles and homes.

Handing over your car keys could be costly

Many South Africans rely on their own transport to get from point A to B and as a result, there are more than 10 million vehicles on South African roads according to recent statistics by the electronic national administration traffic information system (eNaTIS). In many cases, people share vehicles or pass them on to family members as they upgrade, thereby changing the profile of the regular driver of the insured vehicle.
