What information is required to get a quote?

Santam works exclusively through licensed insurance brokers. A completed proposal form – available by clicking the Downloads button on this page – is required. Additionally, please provide:

  • A detailed description of the project.
  • A list of all contractors and professionals involved.
  • Any supporting material that helps present a clear picture of the risk (e.g., brochures, surveys, etc.).

How many deductibles do clients have to pay?

Deductibles apply per occurrence and may be reduced if the insured has deductible infill cover under an annual Single Project PI policy.

What happens to the policy if someone else goes insolvent?

The policy remains in force, with the first-named insured retaining the right to appoint a replacement to complete the project.

What if liability between the parties is contractually limited (e.g. twice the fees)?

The Single Project PI policy includes a No Contractual Limitation of Liability clause, meaning any contractual caps are ignored and the policy will respond up to its full indemnity limit.

What if the policy’s limit of indemnity is eroded by other claims?

The consultant must declare the project under their Annual PI policy. If the Single Project policy limit is used up, the Annual policy can provide additional coverage.

What happens if multiple professionals are sued for the same error?

Each professional is assessed seperately, and only those responsible for an error or omission will be held liable.

Will the insurer share sensitive project information with other parties?

Confidentiality is a top priority. A dedicated legal and project team will be appointed to work independently, ensuring client information remains fully protected.

Who does the broker represent in a Single Project PI policy?

Brokers usually act for the employer or project owner who arranges the policy to cover all professionals. However, consultants and their brokers are encouraged to engage directly with Santam to ensure full alignment.

What if I’m held liable but didn’t make a mistake?

The policy covers legal defence costs, providing funding to defend against allegations of negligence, even if the claim turns out to be unfounded.

What if a professional refuses to claim on the policy?

In these cases, the project owner must take legal action against the professional. The policy only responds if the professional is named in the claim.

What if one insured party breaches the policy conditions?

If one insured party breaches the policy, only that party will lose coverage. Other insured parties under the policy will still be fully protected.
