Santam certified as Top Employer in SA for the third year running

Santam, the country’s largest general insurer, has for the third consecutive year been certified as a Top Employer in South Africa by the Top Employers Institute, the global human resource excellence certification company. 

The certification recognises excellence in employee conditions and Santam’s ongoing commitment to ‘people-first’ practices, which include a strong transformation agenda and dedication to talent management.

This Top Employers Institute has to date certified and recognised over 1500 Top Employers in more than 118 countries across five continents.  This allows certified organisations to leverage their employer branding, benchmark their practices against other top performers, and globally align their policies.

Enid Lizamore, Executive Head of Human Resources at Santam, says, “We are honoured to be certified as a Top Employer for 2019 – this gives us an opportunity to critically look at our people practices and ensure that we are challenging ourselves to give our people the best possible ‘deal’ in working at Santam.  It also allows us to push the boundaries on what we are capable of - to ensure we are both a competitive and attractive employer in the local and international market - whilst ensuring we play a positive role in corporate South Africa.”

In total, 102 South African employers were certified in 2018, allowing them to make use of the Top Employer seal in 2019. Participating companies must achieve consistently high standards as part of an extensive assessment process with a wide spread of people  practices analysed and ranked across ten topics. Some of the criteria assessed include: company culture, talent strategy, on-boarding, workforce planning, learning and development, career and succession management, leadership development, compensation, performance management and benefits and culture.

The Top Employers Institute evaluates the implementation of these HR practices and reviews how they are supported through strategy, ownership, practices, measurement and technology.
