Santam partners with NICRO to inspire and empower youngsters through
creating positive role models.
The Santam-NICRO partnership supports teachers and those working
in education in their efforts to ensure that the youth in
economically and socially disadvantaged communities have a better
chance at succeeding in life.
The project is presented at high school level, where "young
ambassadors" are selected and trained with the necessary skills,
knowledge, experience and motivation. They then serve as positive
role models who interact with and influence their peers,
discouraging them from participating in anti-social behaviour and
criminal activity. NICRO social workers involve other relevant
stakeholders such as parents, life skills educators, criminal
justice officials and the police.
The project was first put in place in Mpumalanga and the Eastern
Cape, and will shortly be extended to include the Western Cape and
KwaZulu-Natal.
