Santam educates school children about the environment and
encourages green entrepreneurship.
Santam, in partnership with Schools Environmental Education and
Development (SEED), sponsors a permaculture food and medicinal
garden at Magovhani Junior Primary School in Ravele Village in
The garden, which relies on renewable resources and a
self-sustaining ecosystem, supplies fresh vegetables, herbs and
fruit to the school's feeding programme. It also supports Magovhani
Junior Primary in its efforts to develop a model green school for
the Vhembe Biosphere initiative; develop skills for improved
livelihoods and self-sufficiency in rural Limpopo; and integrate
food garden teaching with the school's curriculum.
SEED is a non-profit and public benefits organisation that is
developing the curriculum for environmental education and green
entrepreneurship, the design and installation of food gardens at
schools and the development of the first accredited permaculture
facilitator training in the country.
